New advisory document: Towards institution-wide AI education in higher education

Published on: April 29, 2025

Talent, Knowledge & Skills

AIC4NL's Education & Training Project Group, part of the Talent, Knowledge and Skills work area, has published a new advisory document on integrating AI education into higher education.

This paper focuses on teaching about artificial intelligence. The focus is not on the use of AI as a tool for educational processes, testing or fraud prevention, but on the development of knowledge and skills around AI itself. With the presented framework, educational institutions can structurally and effectively shape AI education within their organizations, responding to the growing need for AI knowledge in a variety of sectors.

The advisory document includes:

  • Six key themes essential for implementing AI education;
  • An overview of key challenges and lessons learned along the way;
  • Inspiring case studies from Dutch higher education;
  • Concrete next steps institutions can take toward future-proof AI education.

A joint effort
The transition to institution-wide AI education requires a joint effort by faculty, students, administrators and community partners. Working together, we are building a sustainable and future-oriented educational framework that best prepares students for a society in which AI plays a central role.
