Because AI also creates changes and opportunities in the workplace, the Human Capital sub-working group on Lifelong Development hosted a webinar on June 18. This webinar highlighted various aspects of how AI affects HR functions and what steps organizations can take to integrate this technology effectively and responsibly.

The introduction of AI within the HR field, has the potential to transform HR positions from an enabling role to a strategic one. For example, AI can help HR managers make data-driven decisions to a greater extent, contributing to strategic discussions within organizations. During the webinar, this was highlighted by Marjolein Eenink and Anneke Post, advisors at HR Impuls. They argued that AI can help optimize processes and improve efficiency, especially in sectors such as process industries and healthcare.

Use cases as a starting point for AI implementation

An important part of the webinar was discussing relevant use cases, which can serve as a starting point for AI implementations within the HR environment. Indeed, forming a use case helps concretize and define specific problems within an organization.

This process begins with linking strategic objectives to concrete needs, after which an appropriate AI solution can be sought. The roadmap presented here by HR Impuls emphasized the importance of a structured approach in which the value of AI is clear upfront in order to then implement it successfully.

The importance of having a solid basic understanding of AI within HR teams was also emphasized. Developing a certification program and hosting meetings are ways to upskill HR professionals and prepare them for the changes AI brings or enables.

Data quality, privacy and a learning culture are key

The webinar concluded with a call for HR professionals to proactively take the lead in the AI transformation of their organizations. This means that HR must not only ensure proper data quality and privacy, but also contribute to a culture of continuous learning and development.

In short, AI offers HR the tools to operate more strategically and effectively, provided a proper implementation strategy and a sustained culture of learning and development are pursued. The next webinar on HR & AI will take place on October 3, 2024. Sign up in advance by sending an email to organizer Jolanda Bakker.
