Innovation in the Manufacturing Industry
The AMELIA Learning Community brings together companies, educational institutions, and AI experts in the northern and eastern Netherlands to develop concrete AI solutions for the workplace.
Labor shortages and an aging population are making it difficult for the Dutch manufacturing industry to produce enough goods. International competition and stricter sustainability requirements mean that innovation must happen faster. AI helps with this. Think of quality control, predictive maintenance, and process optimization. For these types of applications, the sector needs qualified AI talent.
AMELIA operates on the principle of “learning by doing”: companies, researchers, and AI experts work together on real-world cases to develop, test, and improve AI solutions directly on the shop floor. The cases focus on three areas of application: people (support for process operators, for example, with a smart manual), products (automated quality control using AI), and machines (predictive maintenance to prevent breakdowns).
About the AMELIA Learning Community
What the partners learn from the case studies is made available through an open learning platform for companies and schools across the entire sector. On the platform, you’ll find interactive workshops for knowledge sharing and training, as well as an open digital platform with learning materials such as knowledge clips, articles, and quizzes.
Knowledge partners include Windesheim, Saxion, the University of Twente, NHL Stenden, Firda, and Deltion College. Industrial partners include ApeelingAI, AWL-Techniek, VMI Group, Rolsch Asset Management, Techspread, Distribute, Klokslag, and HPMoulding. Network partners include Perron038, T-Valley, ICNOP, IQonIQ, Greenwise Campus, and the AI hubs in the East and North of the Netherlands.
