The AIMM Learning Community (AI for SMEs and Vocational Education) is committed to supporting the manufacturing industry by learning together, innovating, and working on concrete real-world challenges involving AI. In manufacturing companies throughout the Netherlands, vocational students, teachers, professionals, and AI experts are tackling real-world challenges from their own regions. AIMM makes AI understandable and immediately applicable on the job.
AI in the Manufacturing Industry
The technical manufacturing industry is changing rapidly. AI, digitization, and the desire for sustainable production mean that new knowledge and skills are needed. For many people working on the front lines, AI is an abstract concept. They want to see with their own eyes what benefits it brings, be certain that it is safe, and understand what it means for their workload. You can answer those questions with concrete applications.
About the AIMM Learning Community
In regional networks, vocational and higher vocational education institutions, organizations, and companies come together to learn by doing. Each region works with use cases submitted by companies themselves; in shared learning teams, students, teachers, professionals, and AI experts collaborate on these challenges as equals. This yields best practices and learning materials—such as a knowledge base and modules—that companies use to develop their own staff and that schools incorporate into their curricula.
AIMM is building five regional communities: East (Achterhoek), South Limburg, Southeast Brabant (Brainport), Northern Netherlands, and Central and West Brabant. The East region has been active since mid-2025, and South Limburg will launch in the first quarter of 2026. In each region, one or more research institutions and at least two SMEs form the core of the community; they select the use cases, and other manufacturing SMEs, AI specialist firms, and research institutions join as co-partners. The regions share their insights with one another and nationwide, ensuring that use cases and learning materials become applicable across the entire sector.
