FlexLab AI Innovation Lab

Smarter Electricity Consumption to Combat Grid Congestion

More and more companies are waiting to be connected to the grid or to expand their capacity because the power grid is reaching its capacity limits. The FlexLab AI Innovation Lab develops, tests, and evaluates AI technologies that enable flexible electricity consumption, thereby helping to resolve grid capacity issues.

Sustainable power generation from solar and wind is not stable, but the demand for electricity is growing. AI helps balance supply and demand. With load forecasting (predicting the load on the grid), grid operators can anticipate peak periods in advance. Local energy management adjusts consumption based on demand, supply, and price dynamics. In this way, AI reduces grid congestion and helps renewable energy integrate more effectively into the existing grid.

About the FlexLab AI Innovation Lab

The FlexLab AI Innovation Lab is a public-private partnership led by Alliander N.V. and TNO, with Alliander serving as the lead applicant. Research institutions and tech companies pool their AI expertise there and translate it into practical techniques, models, tools, and prototypes.
