Amsterdam AI, the AI hub in Amsterdam, has received an NWO grant for the innovative project "The AI Society: Conversations on the impact of Artificial Intelligence. This is one of 12 projects selected under the National Science Agenda's (NWA) call for proposals for science communication. Aimed at bridging the gap between science and society.
In conversation about the impact of AI
This project focuses on the need to raise public awareness of the impact of AI and promote dialogue between scientists and the public and is led by Erik van Zwol, Amsterdam AI. As AI grows rapidly, it is important to ask crucial questions about privacy, equality and future employment. The project focuses on physical interactions to promote real engagement between science and society.
Approach and collaboration
Within the broad consortium, there is considerable experience in facilitating (social) conversations about AI. Amsterdam AI will use its extensive experience to stimulate open discussions on important topics such as generative AI, the origins of AI, deep fakes and other topical issues. In collaboration with a leading consortium, including the City of Amsterdam, NEMO, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Hogeschool van Amsterdam, 3DUniversum, Ink Social Design Studio, Amsterdam AI and the Dutch AI Coalition, the project will engage various societal stakeholders.
Objectives
The objectives of the project are:
- Increase public understanding, awareness of AI and its societal implications.
- Facilitate meaningful dialogue, providing a platform for open and equal conversations.
- Bridge the gap between science and society. Connect scientific research with societal needs through valuable insights.
The consortium participants are excited about the potential impact of this project and look forward to implementing and supporting this project together with Amsterdam AI in efforts to increase public engagement with AI.
