Activities in the AI field
Drawing on its expertise in the field of health disparities, Pharos supports professionals, policymakers, and organizations in developing and implementing AI applications that contribute to equal opportunities in health and access to care. In doing so, we identify the opportunities and risks of AI for different groups, develop knowledge and practical tools, and encourage co-creation with people in vulnerable situations. We ensure that human values guide technological development, so that AI systems contribute to a healthcare practice in which care is understandable and accessible to everyone, decisions are made fairly and without discrimination, and support is aligned with the realities of people’s daily lives.
Contribution to AIC4NL
Pharos is leveraging its expertise, tools, and network to ensure that the AI Coalition’s goals benefit the groups among whom the greatest health gains can be achieved. It is precisely those who stand to benefit most from support—such as people with limited digital or health literacy, older adults, those with low literacy levels, and people living in vulnerable circumstances—who are at risk of being excluded from the benefits of digital healthcare and AI.
Why AIC4NL?
AI has the potential to make healthcare more accessible, efficient, and personalized, but it can also introduce new forms of exclusion and inequality if differences among people are not sufficiently taken into account. By developing AI from the outset to be understandable, inclusive, fair, and context-aware, AI can contribute to equal opportunities in health and to a healthcare system that works for everyone. Based on this conviction, Pharos is pleased to contribute to AIC4NL’s ambition to develop and apply AI in the Netherlands in a responsible and effective manner.
