Development of a National AI Agenda for Agriculture, Food, and Nature

Field of activity: Agriculture & Food

The Netherlands faces major challenges in agriculture, food, and nature. Artificial intelligence (AI) can play a decisive role in this. To truly harness this potential, cooperation and a coherent national AI agenda for agriculture, food, and nature are necessary.

At present, there are many separate initiatives. Valuable projects are emerging, but often without sufficient cohesion, direction, and scale. The field—from farmers, gardeners, and nature conservationists to technology developers and knowledge institutions—is emphatically seeking more focus, leadership, and direction to translate innovation into practical impact. A sound, domain-specific national agenda offers that stability and clarity.

In short: when we look at the sector through AI glasses, we see not only major challenges, but also major opportunities. Thanks to the quality and quantity of data in agri-food and nature, and our strong knowledge position, the Netherlands has a unique starting position. With a positive message, sharp direction, and a shared focus, AI can accelerate asa force for good andcontribute to a safe and fair agri-food system.
